The Custom Hat Experience is a private virtual consultation where you collaborate with PHYLLi to design a one of a kind hat, handcrafted in regional Australia and made exclusively for you.
The Foundation
Your Custom Hat Experience includes:
- Premium felt or Panama
- Crown shape and brim width of your choice
- Classic ribbon band
- 100% silk lining and leather sweatband
- Personalised name stamping inside
Custom trims and specialty detailing are selected during your consultation and priced individually.
Custom Trimmings & Detail
During your appointment, your hat can be elevated with:
- Vintage and collector ribbon bands
- Silk and suede wraps
- Hand stitching and darning
- Personalised branding
- Brim trim and stitching
- Feather detailing
- Charm clusters and hat jewellery
Customised trimmings range from $20 to $699 depending on materials and detail.
Most Custom Hats range between $750-$1,200 depending on detailing.
How it works

- Finalise trims and detailing
- Your hat is handcrafted and delivered in a travel hat box
Appointment & Terms
- Virtual appointments are 90 minutes per hat
- Additional time is charged at $100 per hour
- All custom pieces are final sale
- Production timelines confirmed during consultation

Sizing
Add 1cm to your head measurement to determine your correct hat size.
For example, a 57cm head measurement wears size 58 hat.
The leather sweatband will gently mold to your head over time. Hats do not stretch.

Yes. Each PHYLLi hat is handcrafted in our studio in regional Australia by Laura Hall using premium materials sourced globally.
How should my hat fit?
Your hat should feel secure without pressure. Add 1cm to your head measurement to determine your size (eg. 57cm = size 58). The leather sweatband will gently mould to your head with wear. Hats do not stretch.
Can I wear a felt hat in warmer months?
Yes. Felts hats can be worn year-round, particularly for raceday and special occasion dressing. We recommend storing your hat correctly between wears to maintain its shape.
Is this hat suitable for raceday dress codes?
Yes. PHYLLi hats are designed for raceday, special occasions and elevated event dressing.
How do I travel with my hat?
Each hat is delivered in a travel hat box for protection and storage. For extended travel, we recommend using a purpose-designed travel case to protect the crown and brim.
